Professor Caroline Gray OBE - Director, OpTIC Technology Centre, St Asaph
Currently employed by Wrexham University as Director of their St Asaph facility the OpTIC Technology Centre. A dedicated business and incubator facility based at the heart of the A55 corridor which is also home to the award winning Glyndwr Innovations Ltd Precision Optical Systems team and is Technical lead for their vacuum coating-thin film research facility funded via the ERDF £7.3m Centre for Photonics Expertise collaborative research project.
She has a strong background at both Management and Director level for highly technical and technology based industrial programs and companies within the Optical industry both in the UK and overseas and joined Wrexham University in December 2011 initially as technical specialist to support development of CNC polishing process for the ESO E-ELT mirror program and moved to her current position in 2016.
Graduated in Physics from LJMU, worked within the Photonics industry for 35+ years. Specialising in complex optical component design, fabrication and testing specifically Single Point Diamond Machining and CNC controlled optical processing/polishing processes.
Previously worked for Pilkington Visioncare, Pilkington Space Technology (technical), Optics and Vision (optical design consultancy), Phoenix Optical Technologies (MD & Technical Director), and acted as consultant Project Manager (via own Technical Consultancy, Optics Knowhow Ltd.) for the ESO project at the OpTIC Centre which successfully delivered prototype mirror segments for the ESO ELT Telescope primary mirror.
