Prof Andy Doherty FREng - Chief Technology Officer, GCRE
Andy is the Chief Technology Officer for GCRE. Andy’s role is to provide the vision and leadership to the technology strategy and development of the UK’s first genuine full scale railway innovation facility. Designed to provide a Net- Zero energy system to run a rapid and 100% realistic endurance testing of infrastructure, train and whole system integration testing, validation and certification. Andy has set out the GCRE strategy to build its own digital twin of facility, a BIM construction, enabling automated operations, hard in the loop testing. Andy continues to work for the European Commission as an adviser to the European Commission R & D programmes.
Andy is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineers, he is an Electrical Systems Engineer, with expertise in; the railway system, rolling stock design, the mechanical interface between the train and track, transmission-based signalling systems such ETCS and electromagnetic compatibility.
Andy was previously CTO of Network Rail and previously held several senior roles in London Underground.
